PFAC-tor FAQ
What is the purpose of the PFAC-tor Awards?
The award is designed to recognize leadership, creativity, and innovation factors in the implementation of patient and family advisory councils or other organizations with the same mission.
What categories will be judged:
Some of the typical PFAC categories are:
Emergency Departments
Cancer Treatment/Oncology
Internal medicine
Rehabilitation
OB/GYN and Pediatrics
Orthopedics
Mental Health
Hospital @ Home
But given that many PFACs have a hybrid approach there is a general category to accommodate those models. For example, if the PFAC is designed to represent patients and families across a wide variety of experiences at that provider, the entry should be submitted as a multi-specialty PFAC by design.
Based on the quality and quantity of entries in each category, there will be winners and runners-up.
Who can enter?
Any healthcare organization that has an established council or committee that includes patients and families for feedback and innovation. The name “PFAC” need not be used for your group. It is more a matter of the mission being entirely patient and family driven. Entrees for different PFAC’s from the same provider will require individual submission documents.
How should entries be submitted?
Feel free to use your creative juices while keeping in mind the awards will be judged on substance related to innovation and results. Entries can be submitted in Word, PowerPoint, Video, or other presentation platforms. However again, the judging will be based on the content and not on the “container”.

Can we submit multiple entries if we have multiple PFACs
Yes, as long as each PFAC is a totally separate entity addressing a specific specialty or department. As mentioned above, if the PFAC is hybrid, it should be submitted as a multi-specialty entry.
What should the length of the entry be?
Since the awards will not be granted on the length of a submission, there is no requirement other than that your commentary includes the elements above. Entries may not need extensive “color commentary”, others may require greater narrative to answer the questions. How effectively that is communicated will be a basis for judging.
What are the key criteria that will be evaluated for winning entries?
The key judging criteria can be found bulleted above.
How will the entries be judged?
We are assembling a highly distinguished list of jurors with extensive experience in PFACs, Patient Experience, and quality assurance. Judges with any connection whatsoever to an entry will recuse themselves from the judging.
What is the deadline for entries?
Please fill in your details to submit an application before September 5, 2023. The Awards will be announced during the Patient Experience Symposium Sept. 18-20, 2023. Please click here to submit your entry form. If you have any questions or need assistance, please email Frank Cuttita at fcutitta@icdhealth.net.
What happens after the awards announcement?
The winners will also be announced in the press and through social media. With the winner's permission, the cases will be syndicated at no charge on the ICD Healthcare Network.
What if I still have questions?
All questions should be submitted in writing to Frank Cuttita at fcutitta@icdhealth.net where you will receive a prompt reply by email or phone. Awards sponsored by:
